Two Different Approaches
My friend is a class-room assistant: that means he spends most of his time attempting to help the teacher with the un-ruly / difficult to teach children (and the rest of it cursing the children, but not usually to their faces…). In other words, it’s normally a bit of a nightmare. So not the kind of job that anyone can do.
Now, my friend, upon meeting up with him the other day, said about how he was looking for Teaching Assistant Jobs and we started talking about how best he could do this; I said online was the way to go, seeing as it is so much quicker, but he wasn’t sure. Being a more hands-on person who likes doing practical things, he wasn’t used to filling out stuff online or even looking online for jobs. This may sound ridiculous but he preferred to make actual real PHONE-CALLS to ask real people if there were any jobs going. While I admired him for his approach, I couldn’t help but feel a bit sorry for him: here was a nice bloke who just wanted a job, but who was getting left behind as all the technologically knowledgeable people beat him without him even knowing it.
Anyway, to get to the point finally, I helped him out, and guess what? Two days later I got a call from him saying that he already had TWO promising interviews lined up.
But it works both ways. I’m sure the world would be a nicer place if people decided to ring people up and actually talk to them, but saying that, really, those who prefer talking to people on the phone need to get in on the internet, because there’s no doubt about it: that IS the way forward.
